Japan, Cooperative Giannino Stoppani: Guerrino Tramonti, the Magician of Color Raised in Faenza, Italy: a Retrospective

In Japan continues the retrospective dedicated to the ceramist of Faenza Guerrino Tramonti. After the first stage at the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, the exhibition from 10 December to 12 February 2012 will be transferred to Hagi at the Uragami Museum.

A long run that will end July 29 of 2012 and will touch two other Japanese museums: the Otani Memorial Art Museum in Nishinomiya (April 7-May 27) and the Seto City Art Museum (June 9-July 29).

The title of the retrospective is " Guerrino Tramonti, the Magician of Color Raised in Faenza, Italy: A Retrospective" and it presents the full work of one of the most important ceramic artists of the twentieth century. This retrospective will be presented to Hagi by Marco Tramonti, son of Guerrino, and director of the Foundation Guerrino Tramonti.

On display 150 works representative of his poetry, including sculptures, paintings and ceramics that express the talent and vision of the world of this artist: an immense variety of shapes and colors.

The exhibition

As a testimony of his paintings, there are several oil paintings of the "Venetian period" made between 1945 and 1948, characterized by the aesthetics post-metaphysical, while the second phase of his painting is lined with many paintings "materici" in oil on panel created between the late Sixties and 1992.

The works in polychrome glazed ceramic of the late fifties are characterized by a large color intensity and the extraordinary quality of the coatings, which create exceptionally sharp and poetic images. On display are also a lot of decorative disks which characterized his style more peculiar. In the exhibition it is possible to admire his "porcelains" inspired by the materials and techniques of the ceramics coming from China, Korea and Japan.

The event is part of the exhibition "Italy in Japan 2011", an ambitious project organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italy Japan Foundation, who intend to make known to the Japanese people, through a series of cultural events, the Italian excellence including the Guerrino Tramont iexhibition.

The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Guerrino Tramonti Foundation and the Municipality of Faenza.

On the occasion of the retrospective a catalog was realized by Masahiro Karasawa, curator of the National Gallery of Modern Art in Tokyo, with a critical essay by Ruiz de Infante Josune, curator of the archive of Tramonti Foundation.
