Guglielmo MarconiGuglielmo Marconi wireless pioneer 1909 Nobel Prize Laureate in Physics

There have been three great moments in my life as an inventor. One when my early wireless signals rang a bell at the other side of the room in which I was carrying out my experiment; the second when the signals from my station at Poldhu in Cornwall found response in the telephone receiver I was holding to my ear at St. John's, Newfoundland, 1,800 miles away over the Atlantic; and today when I quietly contemplate the possibilities of the future and feel that my life's work has provided a sure foundation on which the workers of today and tomorrow may build. Guglielmo Marconi - December 1935

Pellegrino Artusi

Pellegrino Artusi and the Italian unity in the kitchen

150 years have passed since the unificationof Italy and 100 years since Artusi’s death (120 since the first publication of his famous cookbook which he took twenty years to complete). Although the two anniversaries may appear distant perhaps in character and intensity, they are indeed subtly linked: Artusi in his book Scienza in cucina fully intended to contribute to the formation of the Italian nation.
Even more than a person, Artusi is a cookery book, indeed, the cookery book par excellence, at the very heart of modern Italian cuisine. With fifteen editions in twenty years, from 1891 to 1911, which were compiled and revised directly by the author, the book has since then been re-edited, copied, plagiarized and translated into many languages right up to the present day.
"Pellegrino Artusi and the Italian unity in the kitchen" is a documentary exhibition made in 2011 by Casa Artusi and the Cultural Department of the Emilia-Romagna Region because of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, the Centennial and the one hundred and twentieth anniversary of the first and last edition of Artusi manual.
Until now it was made in thirty-five countries around the world, accompanied by lectures, workshops and tastings, together with the worldwide network of Diplomatic and Cultural Representations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Restoring Verdi’s places. From Roncole to Sant’Agata via Busseto

To mark the centenary of the death of Giuseppe Verdi on 27 January 2001, the Emilia-Romagna Region, together with the Italian Ministry of Arts and the competent provincial and municipal administrations, has financed a complex programme of restoration and renewal of the most important of Verdi’s places. The most important restoration work was carried out on the composer’s birthplace at Roncole di Busseto, on Villa Verdi at Sant’Agata di Villanova sull’Arda and on Villa Pallavicino in Busseto, which can be considered the most significant among Verdi’s places. Villa Pallavicino is intended to become an arts centre and open-air theatre and to house the future Verdi museum.
